Are Cheap Double Beds Worth Buying?

If you have ever searched online for a new double bed to buy, the chances are you will have come across beds ranging from the very cheap to the outrageously expensive. The question is, are the cheapest ones worth buying, or are they setting you up for disappointment?

The answer lies perhaps in what you expect to get out of a double bed more than anything else. For example, a wooden frame costing £100 is clearly not going to be of the same standard as a wooden bed frame costing four times that amount. It all depends on the type of wood used, the thickness of it, the style and of course the workmanship that has gone into it.

Many people find that cheap double beds are a false economy. They simply don’t last as long as the more expensive ones, and they leave you feeling disappointed – not to mention back in the queue to buy another one.

But is this entirely fair to double bed manufacturers as a whole? Or is it simply that you really do get what you pay for?

It applies just as much to the mattress as well as the double bed frame itself. The more expensive the mattress is, the more likely it is to feature advanced technologies that make the springs more comfortable and longer lasting. If you only pay £100 for a double mattress, you cannot expect the same degree of workmanship to have gone into it.

Most people accept that this is the case. So the best bet then would be to think about why you need a double bed, and where you intend to put it. For example, let’s say your own bed has seen better days and it is time to replace it. Now since you are going to be sleeping in it every night, you will want something that is going to be comfortable. Everyone needs their sleep, after all. You might even pay a bit extra and get a special mattress, such as an orthopaedic one for example.

You also need to think about the décor you have in your room. Do you want a luxurious leather bedstead, or would you prefer something more understated – made from carved wood perhaps? You need to think about this as it could affect the price range of beds you might need to look at.

On the other hand you might have a very different need for a double bed. If you want something for a spare bedroom then the chances are it is not going to be used that often. Why pay hundreds of pounds for a bed that might only be used for the odd night during the year? In this case something a lot cheaper would certainly fit the bill, and it would still look good in your home too.

So you can see that it isn’t always cut and dried when it comes to choosing a cheap or an expensive bed. Always have your reason for buying a double bed firmly in mind before you actually lay down that cash.
