Keeping Your Bed Warm In Winter

Jan 8, 04:36 PM

With temperatures going well below freezing point across much of the country at the moment – even during the day – it is even more vital than ever that we all stay warm.

That applies to night time as well as during the day. And if you have a double bed it is worth preparing it for bedtime a short while before you actually intend turning in for the night.

An electric blanket is the best way to heat up the entire bed if you want to. Make sure you read the instructions for using it thoroughly before you put it on the bed. Some are suitable for keeping on right through the night if you wish, but not all of them can do this. Some are simply designed to heat up the bed before you get in it. Always be sure of what you are buying and use the product properly to stay safe.

You can even buy heated duvets now if you wish. These are more expensive than normal duvets but they do come with a number of features. For example you can set a timer so the duvet heats up for a specified amount of time before you get in bed each night.

Of course these types of products cost money, and while you can get a heated blanket for less than about £50 in some cases, you may not want to spend that much at all.

The cheapest solution of all is to buy a couple of hot water bottles. Fill them up ten to fifteen minutes before you want to go to bed and put them inside it. If you tend to get cold feet make sure you tuck the bottles right down at the bottom of the bed. And remember they will stay warm for quite a while, so you can move them around if you wish. Just make sure the excess air is removed from them before you screw the cap on and ensure there are no leaks or drops of excess water waiting to drip in your bed!

Finally there is no better solution for all night warmth than to put a blanket or two on the bed. If you don’t always need one, grab one and fold it in a concertina fashion and then lay it at the end of the bed. If you wake up during the night and you are cold you can simply grab the end of it and pull it up over you. There is no need to struggle with unfolding it.
